Masonry & Brick Cavity Wall Insulation

brick cavity wall insulation
Brick, masonry and concrete walls are essential parts of modern day construction, but they have very low thermal values. Masonry and brick are very good at storing heat but they are also very good at transferring heat. They heat up during the day and then radiate that heat back into the building, putting strain on the cooling systems. Extruded polystyrene acts as a barrier, limiting this transfer, reducing the need for artificial air conditioning and reducing energy consumption.

A double brick cavity wall has an R-value of only R0.69. In comparison just 30mm of Foamular Extruded Polystyrene has an R-value of R1.07. Combining the two would provide an R-value of 1.76 and vastly improve the walls thermal performance.

"Extruded Polystyrene can help you meet BCA, BASIX and Green Star requirement"

masonry wall panel insulationFoamular Foil Faced 50mm has an R-value of R2.0 at 24°C, giving it superior insulation properties in comparison to EPS and Polyurethane. Foamular's high R-values creates greater thermal efficiency, but it also provides greater R-values in smaller thicknesses, so it takes up less space once installed than other boards. This is especially important in retrofitting applications where insulation will reduce headhigh.

Foamular can be fixed in a variety of methods, including Hiltie XIE, Ramset Systems and furring channels. Foamular has a high tensile strength of 300KPA, so it can even be fixed with approved adhesive.

All Foamular products are guaranteed to maintain 90% minimal thermal performance for a period of 20 years. This makes Foamular an investment that can pay for itself in energy savings.

Extruded Polystyrene Insulates American Stadium
extruded polystyrene in stadium

Extruded polystyrene is popular in parts of America where temperatures often dip below zero because it provides excellent protection from the elements, even in extreme cold. The builders used a combination of insulated masonry walls and under slab insulation to create a highly efficient sporting arena.
