Foamular – Green Roof Garden Presentation.
Applying Foamular into Green Roof garden systems was the key topic at a seminar presented to the Newcastle branch of Australian Institute of Architects.
On the eve of February 23, Foamular Product Manager Mike Nagle passed on his knowledge about the environmental benefits of green roofs by using Foamular Insulation material to guarantee maximum energy efficiency in the structure of Green Roof Gardens. It was an informative presentation, as the assembled architects began to recognise why Foamular continues to grow and distinguish itself as the favoured brand when it comes to Extruded Polystyrene Insulation.
The Chairman of the Newcastle Division, Australian Institute of Architects attended the event and was particularly impressed on the information offered about Foamular and insulation:
‘Mike provided an excellent presentation at the New Technologies in Building Products Seminar. It was very informative and provided both good background information on the Insulation industry as well as on specific Austech insulation products.’
Australia has seen an increase in popularity when it comes to green roofs over the past 10 years. Leading business groups and Australian wide city councils have been dynamic in promoting the benefits of green roofs since 2008. As well as the environmental advantages, green roof gardens display architectural prowess, brilliance and are physically appealing to the eye.
Green Roofs are just one of the many applications of the Extruded Polystyrene Foamular. As more architects and builders are opting for Foamular over its competitors, it has become evident that Foamular is superior in the reduction of moisture absorption, its high R values and ability to maintain its thermal and physical properties.

Green Garden Roofs will provide some insulation from the soil and plants, but for adequate R-values, added insulation is needed. Extruded Polystyrene is placed below the soil but above the concrete roof, creating a continuous thermal barrier.

Extruded Polystyrene is an environmentally friendly product, but Austech has taken it one step further with the introduction of Polyboard Enviro 300, a Zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) Extruded Polystyrene Board with great R-values and compressive strength.

Green roof gardens are becoming an increasingly popular way to cover flat concrete roofs, but they do not provide sufficient R-values to create an energy efficient building. Foamular is not affected by soil, mould, water or plants so it is ideal for use under green roof gardens.
